Customs and Tariffs

  • What are Customs and Tariffs? Customs is an authority or agency in a country responsible for controlling the flow of goods and personal effects in and out of the country as well as collecting customs duties or tariffs. Customs duties vary by country, product and quantity, with duties often dependent on the value of the imported goods. Some goods are exempt from duty under various trade agreements. Customs rules, however, differ from other import restrictions, which may vary by country of import as well as country of origin.
  • What are Import Customs Tariffs in your country? When GlobalOrders-USA ships you your order on your behalf, you as the recipient of the goods are considered to be an importer and it is your responsibility to pay any customs duties that you might be liable for on your end.
  • What Export Customs Tariffs in the USA? For most goods in reasonable quantities and most countries of destination, there are no exporter customs duties collected in the USA. However, if your particular situation requires any customs duties to be paid in the United States, you as a recipient of the goods are responsible for any customs duties that you might be liable for in the United States.

Sales Tax

  • What is a sales tax and when is it collected? Sales tax is collected by the state and, in some cases, by local municipalities (local surcharge) on goods sold in that state. For example, if you buy something in the state of California, the state collects 7.25% of the cost of goods sold. Plus, local surcharge can be between 0 and 1.5%. Therefore, the total sales tax can be between 7.25% and 8.75%.

Fortunately, the sales tax is collected only by those Internet stores that are located in the same state as buyers. In cases when the seller of goods is located outside of the state of California, and ships the goods to the buyer's address in California, the sales tax is not collected. This is the beauty of Internet shopping: one can always find an Internet store outside California and thus, avoid paying the sales tax.

Warranties

  • What is my warranty? All American online stores, auctions and conventional stores have elaborate and liberal guaranties and return policies in regards to the purchased goods in order to protect you as consumer. These guaranties and return policies vary by store and product.

When GlobalOrders-USA ships you your order, we pass on to you ALL customer protection benefits that you are entitled to in regards to your purchase at a particular store. Moreover, in a rare case of a problem situation requiring an intervention in order to return or replace your order, or send any missing parts, we will act on your behalf as your agent to resolve any issue to your full and complete satisfaction.

We will not charge you extra money for our time spent on resolving the issues; however, you might be responsible for shipping charges if they are required.

Shipping Insurance

  • Is shipping insurance available? Practically all shipping carriers offer an option for insuring your freights. For example, Express Mail International® service by the United States Postal Service (USPS) provides affordable and fast international delivery to more than 190 countries. It includes insurance against loss, damage, or missing contents up to $100 with additional insurance available up to $5,000 to certain countries. Voltage: Electrical Appliances and Electronic Devices Usage Abroad

  • Are American electrical appliances compatible with those of other countries'? When buying electronic devices (laptops, phone, camcorders, photo cameras etc.) as well as electrical appliances (hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, lamps, shavers etc.) you as a consumer need to realize that there are power supply differences between the USA and your country, both, in voltage and in frequency of the alternate current used in the power supply.

In the USA and Japan electrical power is supplied at 110V, 60 HZ, while in Europe and most of the rest of the world electrical power is supplied at twice the voltage, 220V, 50HZ. It means that US devices not compatible with the 220V plugged into the European electrical outlet will be destroyed. The supply frequency difference between 50 and 60Hz is not important for most portable devices.

Luckily, there are ways to still use American electronics and electrical appliances in your country.

First of all, there is a safeguard in that the U.S. plugs and electrical outlets differ from the European plugs and outlets. American plug/socket terminals are flat, while European are round, so it if physically impossible to plug an American device into the 220V electrical socket.

Second of all, many electronic and electrical devices are designed for dual voltage and have embedded switches that allow them to adapt to any voltage.

Third of all, there are numerous plug adapters, voltage converters and transformers available in the U.S. stores. You just need to realize the voltage difference and always ask the retailer about what converter/adapter is needed for proper usage of the 110V American product with the 220V power supply in your country.

Weight and Length Units

  • How does the US customary units relate to the International System of Units (SI) metric system ? United States customary units are still commonly used in the United States, especially in retail.

Below are the tables for weight and length notation and convertiion from American customary units to the Metric System and vice versa.
Length Measurement Units Notation and Conversion
1 inch = 1 in = 1" = 2.54 cm 1 cm = 0.39"
1 foot = 1 ft = 1' = 12" = 0.3048 m 1 m = 3.28'
1 yard = 3 ft = 0.9144 m 1 m = 1.094 yard

Weight Measurement Units Notation and Conversion
1 ounce (Oz) = 28.3495 g 1 g = 0.0353 Oz
1 pound (Lb) = 16 Oz = 453.59 g = 0.45359 Kg 1 Kg = 1000 g = 2.2046 Lb

Apparel and Footwear Sizes

  • How can I convert between different countries' apparel and footwear sizes? American dress and shoe sizing standards are different from the rest of the world. In fact, there is no real international standard for clothes and footwear sizing. Different countries use different sizing scales. US dress and shoe size scales vary between women, men, children and juniors.

When you buy apparel or shoes in the American market, you can easily convert the U.S. size specification into the size specification of your country using the following conversion tables:
